Prologue
Steven Blaze sat at the bar at the Four Passion club sipping from his beer bottle and watching the adults in the polyandrous relationships having fun. He looked over to his business partner and brother, Giles, to see him watching the women’s antics with a smile on his face.
“Do you think we’ll ever have that?” Giles pointed his beer bottle to where the ménage couples were chatting and generally having a good time. Giles was a year older than Steve but they were close and always seemed to think along the same lines.
Steve loved this town. The men really looked out for the women. The women looked after their men and all the people in those unconventional relationships were so damned happy and in love, it almost seemed too good to be true. But he knew it was true and real because he could see how happy they were with his own eyes. And the only thing that would make him happier would be to have what all those men had.
He and Giles wanted a woman of their own to love and hold and cherish. He wanted to have someone he could come home to and cuddle with, talk to and make love with. He wanted to build a life and have children and he would give anything to have a soft, warm, sweet-smelling woman in his arms.
“God, I hope so. We grew up in this town and were here before the first polyandrous relationship formed, but the single women get snapped up faster than a raccoon on speed.”
Giles burst out laughing and then cocked his eyebrow at him. “Where the hell did you get that saying from? We don’t even have raccoons in this country.”
Steve grinned. “I just made it up. What do you want me to say, as fast as a drunken koala? We all know the only time a koala moves fast is when it’s on the ground and feels threatened. They’re always intoxicated on gum leaves.”
“Give it up, bro, that’s not even funny. You should have stuck with the raccoon.”
“Speaking of koalas, did you hear that one in the tree out front early this morning? Shit, what a fucking racket. If anyone else heard it and didn’t know what is was they would have thought there was a wild boar on the loose.”
“Yeah, I heard it. It was damn hard to miss.” Giles smirked. “I love living in the country. The kangaroos are good at keeping the grass down and we don’t have to mow so often.”
“There is that. I’m so glad we were able to buy our five-acre property when we did and get out of the small rental. Now that the population is growing, sales are moving a lot faster.”
“Yep, before we know it there will be new houses popping up all over the place. It will be good for the economy and
the local businesses.”
“Did you hear about the new florist shop that’s supposed to be starting up?” Steve took another swig from his bottle.
“No. When and where is that going to happen?”
“Don’t rightly know. It could be just a rumor but I doubt it. We all heard about this place before it even got off the ground.”
Giles grunted. “There are a couple of empty shop fronts along the main street. Maybe one of those places will be converted. Have you seen anyone refurbishing them?”
“Not yet, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out. You never know, if that rumor is true, there could be another single woman or two coming to town.”
Steve looked at Giles and saw the anticipatory gleam in his brother’s eyes. If there was another single woman coming to live in Passion, he was going to make damn sure to introduce himself real quick. There were still too many men looking for women of their own and if he and Giles didn’t move fast then they wouldn’t stand a chance.
Living in the country was great. Being away from busy, polluted cities and closer to nature was his ideal lifestyle but women tended to be a lot scarcer than men in small country towns. As much as he hated to admit it, there were more opportunities in the larger towns for women to get better jobs, but lately more and more people were looking for the quieter aspect of life and he just hoped that he and Giles would end up meeting a woman they could both love real soon.
It hadn’t hurt to have their town plastered all over the national news eighteen months ago when the first ménage relationship had formed. Since then there seemed to be a larger influx of tourists and weekend visitors.
Steve looked over at Bear hugging his fiancée Nikki Sprite and smiled when their eyes just sort of locked together. He had to look away when he saw the heat in their eyes because he felt like he was impinging on their privacy.
God, please, please let us find that with a special woman.
Chapter One
“You are so beautiful and smell so sweet.” She inhaled deeply taking in the unique perfume of the blooming pink carnations as she watered them.
Molly Godfrey had been in the town of Passion, Victoria for a whole week and she had never been happier. She’d leased an empty shop front on the main street, not far from the local real estate office, nearly four weeks ago.
She’d never been very proficient at using a computer but with her friend Deanne’s help, she’d been able to print and scan all the paperwork, and send it back signed via an email.
Molly was now the proud tenant of the florist shop and a one-bedroom apartment above her new store. She wouldn’t be opening the doors to her shop for another month because she was in the process of refurbishing, but she was so excited she couldn’t wait to get out of bed every day. There was still so much to be done but she knew her hard work would pay off in the end.
Molly was astonished by all the big handsome men who lived in Passion, but what puzzled her more were the polyandrous relationships that seemed to be prevalent in the small rural town. It wasn’t that she cared one way of the other how other people lived their lives as long as all concerned were agreeable, but what confused her was why the men wanted to share a woman in the first place. She wondered what happened to the poor women when the men got jealous and ended up in fisticuffs with each other. She gave a mental shrug and leaned against the counter as she watched the chippy Graham Lang do his thing as he put in some more shelves along the back wall.
Graham was a nice man and whenever he spoke to her, he smiled, but beneath the surface he looked kind of sad. She wished she was witty enough to say something smart and sassy to put a smile on his face but Molly was one of those people who needed time to process things and often the punch line had already passed before she twigged the meaning and got the joke. She tried hard not to laugh after the fact but sometimes things got the better of her and she ended up laughing out loud anyway. Deanne had always just smiled at her and never said anything, but other people had looked at her as if she were weird. She had been labeled a crunchy by some of the people she met along the way, and even though it wasn’t meant as derogatory, sometimes Molly felt a little hurt over that. A crunchy was a honeycomb covered in chocolate and the meaning was that she was blonde on the inside. In other words, Molly could be a bit of an airhead. Although that was sometimes true, she wasn’t stupid. It just took her longer to think things through than other people.
Molly already missed Deanne and hoped that one day soon her friend would come to visit or Molly would be able to go and see her, but she couldn’t see that happening anytime soon. There was still so much to do and then she needed to work hard to establish her business.
She glanced at the door when the new beeper sounded and let her know someone had entered the store. Even though she wasn’t open yet, the people who lived in Passion were so friendly they often popped in to say hi.
The real estate agents, Steven and his brother Giles Blaze, stepped through the door and smiled at her. She’d only met them that one time when she had gone to their business to get the key for her shop, but because they were such big handsome men, she found that they were never far from her mind.
Molly straightened up from her slouched position on the counter and cursed that she was only wearing an old faded pair of jeans and T-shirt. It was really hard not to lift an arm to check her unruly wavy hair, but she managed to refrain, just.
“Hi, Molly, how are things going?”
Better for seeing you and your studly brother.
“Hi, Steven, Giles, things are moving along. How’s the real estate business?”
God, Molly, could you be any more dorky?
Giles glanced at Steven and smirked. Molly wondered if he thought she was a dork, too. Everyone else did, so why would these two handsome sexy men be any different?
“Business is good,” Steven answered and kept moving until he was across the counter from her. Giles gave her a look she couldn’t decipher and then went over to talk to Graham. Steven drew her attention when he began talking again. “Giles and I thought you might like to come out with us to the club tonight for dinner. We can introduce you around so you can meet some more people.”
God yes! Molly’s insides did a happy dance and she hoped like hell none of her feelings showed on her face. She could think of nothing better than spending time with the two tall blonde hunks but she pushed her excitement down deep.
Get a grip, Molly. They aren’t asking you out on a date. They are only being friendly because you’re new in town and want you to meet new people.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t tear her eyes away from his. He was built like a Greek god with his tall six-foot-two frame and muscular body. She loved his wavy blond collar-length hair and wanted to find out if it was as soft and thick as it looked. Steven’s blue eyes were so light they were almost translucent and she imagined they could see into her soul. And his body. My God, did he have a body on him. She wondered if he worked out a lot. Even though he was dressed nicely in dress trousers and a button-down shirt, every time he moved, the sleeves on his shirt clung to the muscles of his biceps and looked like they were about to rip open. It wasn’t that he wore his shirts too tight. It was just that the material seemed to cling and she nearly ended up drooling when his arms bulged and rippled.
And then there was Giles. Giles looked like he was a couple of years older than Steven but the similarities were so uncanny they could have been twins. Giles was an inch taller than Steven but he was just as muscular and bulky as his brother. His hair was straight and didn’t have the wave in it that Steven’s did, and he wore it a little shorter, but his eyes were a darker blue and not as piercing as his sibling’s. The Blaze brothers were so damn handsome, brawny, and sexy, she often found herself watching out for them.
Their real estate office was only two stores down from hers and she couldn’t help but stand by the window to her shop every morning just hoping to catch a glimpse of them when they arrived at work.
<
br /> But no matter how sexy they were, Molly knew she would never even get a sideways look from these two sexy men. As far as Molly was concerned, she was a plain Jane and didn’t have anything special about her appearance or personality that would attract men like these.
Molly Godfrey was just plain all over. She was average height, had average-colored shoulder-length brown hair and average-looking hazel eyes. She was twenty-five years old and even though she’d had two boyfriends, they had been just as average looking as her. They had been nice men and treated her with respect, but there had never been any spark. Everything about Molly’s life had been average until she had moved to Passion and now that she was the proud tenant of the flower shop, she hoped to change her boring mundane life to one with a bit more excitement. She was already starting to make friends in her new home town and hoped to make even more. She’d only ever really had Deanne and she would like to have more girlfriends to be able to confide in or just to have a night out on the town with now and then.
“Molly? Are you okay?” Steven was frowning at her and she realized she hadn’t answered his question and was standing there staring at him. Heat suffused her cheeks and she looked away. Her gaze connected with Giles and he was frowning at her, too.
She wondered if he’d heard Steven asking her out and was trying to figure out why his brother would ask someone like her on a date. Shit! There you go again, Molly, getting ahead of yourself. It’s not a date. He’s just being friendly.
